The Deftones started out in Sacramento, California about 15 years ago. They are often classified as Nu Metal, along with the likes of System of a Down. Their music usually has only one goal in mind - to rock. Chino Moreno, the lead singer, can be heard on the songs screaming his lungs out (like the picture above) or using subdued tones on a somber track. Aggro or aggressive is the best way to describe their style. But don't confuse aggro with dangerous or satanic, these guys are harmless. The music is intended to get your blood pumping, but not to kill a small animal (as may be suggested by other darker metal bands). The Deftones are a good example of 100% Californian hard rock; the lead singer is even representative of the two biggest minorities in California -- he's half-Hispanic, half-Chinese.
